Retreats

Mark 6:30 The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.

The Church has always encouraged the practice of taking time away from ordinary activities to focus more intensely on one’s relationship with God. Jesus himself was always “going away to a quiet place” in order to pray to his Father. We see in the above Gospel passage that he was training his apostles and disciples to do the same. There was no expiration date on the the disciples’ need! I have very much enjoyed the opportunity to preach retreats, missions and days of recollections over the past few years. As time permits, I will be uploading the written texts of them onto this page. These texts will never substitute for your going away with Jesus on a retreat, but I hope that they may assist your daily prayer until your next retreat!

In Christ, Fr. Roger J. Landry
