Landry<br \/>\nActon University, Grand Rapids, MI<br \/>\nThursday of the 12th Week in Ordinary Time, Year I<br \/>\nMemorial of St. Josemaria Escriv\u00e0, on the 50th Anniversary of his Death<br \/>\nJune 26, 2025<br \/>\nGen 16:1-12.15-16, Ps 106, Mt 7:21-29<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>To listen to an audio recording of today&#8217;s homily, please click below:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-31287-2\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/traffic.libsyn.com\/secure\/catholicpreaching\/6.26.25_Homily_1.mp3?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/traffic.libsyn.com\/secure\/catholicpreaching\/6.26.25_Homily_1.mp3\">https:\/\/traffic.libsyn.com\/secure\/catholicpreaching\/6.26.25_Homily_1.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The following outline guided the homily:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two things in the Gospel in summary of the Sermon on the Mount:\n<ul>\n<li>Doing the will of God<\/li>\n<li>Building our life on the rock.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s not enough to give God lip service or even being his instrument for great miracles. He wants us growing into his image and likeness, becoming more like him.<\/li>\n<li>Similarly it\u2019s not enough for us to listen to his words. He wants us to build our life on him.<\/li>\n<li>The analogy of building houses is illustrative. In the ancient world some would build on sandy creek beds. Seemed easy. But wouldn\u2019t last. Jesus wants us to build on his word.<\/li>\n<li>Sara didn\u2019t. God had spoken clearly to Abram and to Sara, but Sara grew impatient. She ceased to trust. She took matters into her own hands. Then it led to problems for Hagar, Ishmael and Abraham.<\/li>\n<li>James called us to be doers of the word, not just idle listeners. Like Mary, let the word take on our flesh. To be a true member of his family, by hearing the Word of God and doing it.<\/li>\n<li>Gregory the Great said, <em>vita bonorum viva lectio<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Today the Church celebrates St. Josemaria Escriva. on the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of death. He was someone whose life was a commentary on Sacred Scripture. He responded to his vocation as a priest. Then to found Opus Dei. To take seriously our being made in God\u2019s image and likeness. Be holy. Be perfect. This is God\u2019s will for you, your sanctification. Not just in his own life but in everyone\u2019s particularly the laity, particularly in one\u2019s work.<\/li>\n<li>Act on God\u2019s call. To do his will. To build our life and all our work on his ongoing work of forming us to be more and more his image.<\/li>\n<li>Today is the 26<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of my priestly ordination. Priests are men of the word. Receive the Gospel. Most important thing is that they can help people hear the Word of God and act on it. To help people live the word of God.<\/li>\n<li>Today we hear the word of God. We build on it. We don\u2019t just cry out, but we seek to do his will as he says, \u201cDo this in memory of me.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The readings for today&#8217;s Mass were:<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"wr-block b-verse bg-white padding-bottom-m\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"p-wrap col-lg-10 offset-lg-1 col-xl-8 offset-xl-2 col-xxl-6 offset-xxl-3 \">\n<div class=\"innerblock\">\n<div class=\"content-header\">\n<h3 class=\"name\">Reading 1<\/h3>\n<div class=\"address\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/Genesis\/16?1\">Genesis 16:1-12, 15-16 <\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-body\">\n<p>Abram&#8217;s wife Sarai had borne him no children.<br \/>\nShe had, however, an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar.<br \/>\nSarai said to Abram:<br \/>\n&#8220;The LORD has kept me from bearing children.<br \/>\nHave intercourse, then, with my maid;<br \/>\nperhaps I shall have sons through her.&#8221;<br \/>\nAbram heeded Sarai&#8217;s request.<br \/>\nThus, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan,<br \/>\nhis wife Sarai took her maid, Hagar the Egyptian,<br \/>\nand gave her to her husband Abram to be his concubine.<br \/>\nHe had intercourse with her, and she became pregnant.<br \/>\nWhen she became aware of her pregnancy,<br \/>\nshe looked on her mistress with disdain.<br \/>\nSo Sarai said to Abram:<br \/>\n&#8220;You are responsible for this outrage against me.<br \/>\nI myself gave my maid to your embrace;<br \/>\nbut ever since she became aware of her pregnancy,<br \/>\nshe has been looking on me with disdain.<br \/>\nMay the LORD decide between you and me!&#8221;<br \/>\nAbram told Sarai:\u00a0 &#8220;Your maid is in your power.<br \/>\nDo to her whatever you please.&#8221;<br \/>\nSarai then abused her so much that Hagar ran away from her.<\/p>\n<p>The LORD&#8217;s messenger found her by a spring in the wilderness,<br \/>\nthe spring on the road to Shur, and he asked,<br \/>\n&#8220;Hagar, maid of Sarai, where have you come from<br \/>\nand where are you going?&#8221;<br \/>\nShe answered, &#8220;I am running away from my mistress, Sarai.&#8221;<br \/>\nBut the LORD&#8217;s messenger told her:<br \/>\n&#8220;Go back to your mistress and submit to her abusive treatment.<br \/>\nI will make your descendants so numerous,&#8221; added the LORD&#8217;s messenger,<br \/>\n&#8220;that they will be too many to count.<br \/>\nBesides,&#8221; the LORD&#8217;s messenger said to her:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You are now pregnant and shall bear a son;<br \/>\nyou shall name him Ishmael,<br \/>\nFor the LORD has heard you,<br \/>\nGod has answered you.<\/p>\n<p>This one shall be a wild ass of a man,<br \/>\nhis hand against everyone,<br \/>\nand everyone&#8217;s hand against him;<br \/>\nIn opposition to all his kin<br \/>\nshall he encamp.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hagar bore Abram a son,<br \/>\nand Abram named the son whom Hagar bore him Ishmael.<br \/>\nAbram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wr-block b-verse bg-white padding-bottom-m\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"p-wrap col-lg-10 offset-lg-1 col-xl-8 offset-xl-2 col-xxl-6 offset-xxl-3 \">\n<div class=\"innerblock\">\n<div class=\"content-header\">\n<h3 class=\"name\">Responsorial Psalm<\/h3>\n<div class=\"address\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/Psalms\/106?1\">Psalm 106:1b-2, 3-4a, 4b-5<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-body\">\n<p>R.
