In this homily, the following points were made:

  • The best way to venerate Mary on this day on which the Church celebrates her Coronation as Queen of Heaven and Earth is to allow her to serve us. For her, as John Paul II teaches us, to reign is to serve. In her Assumption and Coronation, she was conformed ever more to the mystery of her Son and she wishes to serve us by helping us to become conformed to him as well.
  • In the Gospel reading from the Beatitudes, we not only see the face of Jesus, who didn’t merely live the beatitudes but is the beatitudes, but we see the face of Mary, who shows us the faithful response God is hoping of all of us. She lived each of these beatitudes and is seeking to intervene for us right now so that we might become, more and more, people of the beatitudes. That is the path to the eternal beatitude that she now shares in that kingdom where she, crowned with 12 stars, hopes one day to see us crowned with an imperishable wreath.
